Frequently asked questions
What is Discord's upload limit?
10 MB for free accounts, 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro (as of 2026). The presets target ~3% under each cap so the upload never bounces.
Why did my video get smaller (resolution)?
A 10 MB budget for a long clip can't hold 4K. We downscale just enough to keep the picture watchable — the planned resolution is shown before you start, so there are no surprises.
Is audio kept?
Yes. If the source audio already fits the budget it's passed through untouched; otherwise it's re-encoded to AAC at 128k (96k mono under very tight targets) and the rest of the budget goes to video.
How long does it take?
It encodes at hardware speed — a 300 MB phone clip typically compresses in a couple of minutes on a mid-range laptop, and there is no upload wait at all. Cloud tools spend longer than that just uploading.
